Pam Brown, CEO of Prairie Bunkers will be presenting on the subject of "Sustainable Data Centers in An Era of Energy Regulation" at Ecobuild America's 2009 conference in Washington,DC, December 8-10. Pam's presentation will explore the strategic, operational and critical process to a sustainable data center. All aspects of sustainability; 1) security/survivability, 2) efficiency, 3) scalability, and 4) greenness; will be considered. The proprietary document “Critical Path to a Data Center” will be utilized as the structure for the presentation. Each element of the “critical path” will be related to evolutionary, revolutionary, and greenfield data center solutions. Prairie Bunkers will be used as a case study of the process of developing sustainable data centers. Also Prairie Bunkers will be cited as an example of a remote greenfield solution. The presentation will focus on data centers in relation to energy regulation. The most current information on the status of macro regulatory issues such as public policy/politics, the economy, and public perceptions will inform the discussion, as well as micro factors such as internal corporate expectations. Power availability, cost, reliability, and renewability will be discussed as part of the “critical path” and in the context of regulatory forces. Strategies that can impact the creation and maintenance of sustainable data centers such as consolidation through virtualization and unified communications will also be explored.
